SSU to Host Ohio Region 7 Homeland Security Active Aggressor Exercise

The Scioto County Emergency Management Agency announces exercise.

(Portsmouth, OH – October 1, 2024) – The campus of Shawnee State University in Portsmouth will play the role of the fictitious Columbia State University on Thursday October 3rd and Friday October 4th as law enforcement Special Response Teams (SRT) from around southeastern Ohio take part in an Ohio Homeland Security active aggressor exercise.

Officers from Athens, Chillicothe, Jackson, Logan, Portsmouth, Oak Hill, Ohio University, Rio Grande, and Wellston Police Departments, as well as deputies from Athens, Hocking, Jackson, and Perry County Sheriff’s Departments will take part in the two-day exercise that is designed to test their capabilities to respond to an active aggressor situation.

THIS IS ONLY AN EXERCISE. The public is asked to avoid the area directly around Shawnee State University on Thursday October 3rd and Friday October 4th.
