The Wheelersburg Elementary School Family Literacy Night was a fantastic event, planned and organized by our dedicated Title 1 Team. With a fun Pirate-themed adventure, families engaged in exciting literacy activities. There was a place for a photo op with Pirate themed props.
Upon arrival, families checked in at the sign-in desk, where they received a treasure map and a door prize ticket. Throughout the night, students explored eight themed stations, collecting stamps on their maps along the way. Those who visited five or more stations earned a special prize at the sign-in table, thanks to the efforts of Dawn Horsley, Chinnetta Rase, Brandie Frazier, and Toni Gill, who managed check-in and prizes.
At the Story Corner, Liz Conn captivated students by reading engaging books aloud. Mark Knapp and Dana Hamilton led families in interactive literacy games, while volunteers from the Key Club assisted at various stations, playing games and leading activities.
In the high school library, Aimee Hall introduced students to self-regulation strategies, helping them create personalized bracelets as a reminder of the techniques they learned. At the Creation Station, Betty Green guided students in designing their own bookmarks. The Scioto County Public Library also joined in, providing free items to students to encourage a love of reading.
Thank you to Patty Staker for hosting Family Literacy Night in the school library.
A big thank you to Brenda Spires from The Nutrition Group, who hosted multiple engaging activities for students and generously provided pizza and drinks for attendees. Additionally, our wonderful PTO supplied bags of popcorn and bottled water and sponsored four $25 gift certificates as door prizes. Families also had the opportunity to visit the Book Fair, which remained open throughout the event.
With about 250 attendees in just one hour, Family Literacy Night was a wonderful success! Thank you to everyone who helped make this event successful!
