Right To Know

Wheelersburg Elementary School and Wheelersburg Middle School are Title I schools and receive Title I funding in order to provide educational resources and services for students. These resources may include remediation classes, alternative methodology classes, in-school and after-school tutoring.  The Wheelersburg Local Schools has implemented a school-wide Title I program which means every Kindergarten -8th grade student will have access to these resources.

In accordance with the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (also referred to in the media as the ESEA waiver), Section 1112, Parents’ Right to Know, this is a notification from Wheelersburg Local Schools to every parent of a student in a Title I school that you have the following rights:

  1. To request and receive information in a timely manner regarding the professional qualifications of your student’s classroom teachers. This information regarding the professional qualifications of your student’s classroom teachers shall include: a) whether the teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade level and subject areas taught; b) whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or temporary status in which Ohio qualifications and licensing criteria are waived; c) the teacher’s baccalaureate degree major, graduate certification, and field of discipline; and d) whether the student is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.
  2. If at any time your student has been taught for 4 or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that does not meet state certification requirements, you will be notified by the school of this information.
  3. Parents may request information regarding any State or district policy regarding student participation in any assessments mandated by Federal law, and by the State or district, including a policy, procedure, or parental right to opt the child out of the assessment, where applicable.  (See Ohio Department of Education Guidance document here.)
  4. Notification your Title 1 eligible child is being placed in a Limited English Proficient instruction program.
