Dr. George W. Rightmire

George W. Rightmire was a member of the first graduating class from Wheelersburg High School. Dr. Rightmire was born at Center Furnace, Lawrence County on November 15, 1868 and died in December 1952. He taught locally for a few years before moving to Columbus. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1902, the same year he joined the faculty of The Ohio State University. He served as the sixth president of The Ohio State University from 1926 through 1938. Rightmire Hall, a science laboratory at Ohio State University, is named in his honor.
