Howard Staker

Class of 1950
Inducted July 2013

Howard translated his high school interest in science to a career in pharmacy. He attended Capital University for one year then transferred to the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. He was a member of Rho Chi Honor Pharmacy Society. During his senior year Howard was selected by the college to conduct a research experiment project to place vitamin-B12 into an injectable solution. The experiment was a success and so was Howard. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from OSU in 1956.

After graduation Howard embarked on a professional career that included several pharmacies but he is most proud of his 38 years of employment with the Upjohn Company. During his tenure with the company he received numerous awards including the distinguished William E. Upjohn Award in 1992.

Howard has an extensive resume of community and civic service. He is noted for being an original Director and Trustee for the Scioto County Water District for 12 years. His hard work was instrumental in bringing a rural water delivery system to the Lucasville and Minford communities. The successful system soon spread across the county and now many of us receive our water service from Scioto Water, an off-shoot of the system in Lucasville. He has served in leadership positions for St. John Lutheran Church, Tan Lan Pool, and the WHS Athletic Association.

Just recently, Howard was honored by the Ohio State University Alumni Association and presented the Alumni Distinguished Service Award.
